Lima city tour: Historic Center and San Francisco Monastery

Tour of the city of Lima: a guided visit across its three historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial and modern. It includes the panoramic view of the Huaca Pucllana, a ceremonial center from the 4th century AD, and the Historic Center with over fifty colonial buildings: Paseo de la República, Plaza San Martín, Plaza Mayor, Government Palace, Cathedral Basilica and City Hall.

Entrance to the San Francisco Monastery, home to the largest collection of colonial religious art in the Americas and its underground crypts, the Catacombs. Closing through contemporary Lima: El Olivar de San Isidro, Miraflores and Larcomar.

Arequipa city tour and the Santa Catalina Monastery

Tour of Arequipa: after breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Arequipa (not included). On arrival, our team will welcome you in the "White City" and assist you with check-in at your hotel, with complimentary coca tea and muña to help you acclimate to the altitude.

On the cultural tour: the Plaza de Armas with the Cathedral Basilica, the Yanahuara viewpoint with its sillar arches and views of the Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu volcanoes, and the Santa Catalina Convent, an architectural jewel of the colonial era.

Colca Canyon landscape along the route from Arequipa

Colca Canyon scenery: early departure to the Colca Valley along a scenic route between snow-capped volcanoes, agricultural terraces and traditional villages. Stop at the Aguada Blanca National Reserve, home to free-roaming guanacos, alpacas and vicuñas.

We will skirt the Chucura Volcano up to the Patapampa viewpoint (4,900 m.a.s.l.) with a panorama of the snow-capped Hualca Calca, Sabancaya and Ampato. On to Chivay, gateway to the valley, with a traditional lunch and hotel check-in. In the afternoon, free time for the La Calera hot springs (38 °C).

Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint in the Colca Canyon

Cruz del Cóndor: we start early, because there is so much to see! First, the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, near Maca and Cabanaconde. The canyon's updrafts create ideal conditions for the majestic Andean condors, birds with a wingspan of up to three meters that glide over the thermals, usually early in the morning.

Around 1:00 p.m. the journey to Puno, Peru's folklore capital, begins, with a stop at Patapampa (4,900 m.a.s.l.), the highest point of the trip, with views of the Sabancaya, Ampato, Misti and Chachani volcanoes and a traditional apacheta. Arrival in Puno around 6:00 p.m.

Uros and Taquile islands on Lake Titicaca

Uros and Taquile: a full-day excursion on Lake Titicaca. From the port, a motor boat takes you to the Uros Islands (3,810 m.a.s.l.), floating islands built entirely from totora reeds dating back to the pre-Inca era. You will meet the local families and their traditional way of life, passed down through generations.

The journey continues to the island of Taquile, famous for the friendliness of its people, its strong cultural identity and its fine handmade textiles woven with vibrant colors and symmetrical designs. After a traditional lunch, return to Puno by boat at the end of the afternoon.

Bus route from Puno to Cusco through the Altiplano

Route from Puno to Cusco: pickup at 7:00 a.m. at your hotel and transfer to the bus station. This is not just a transfer but a cultural experience along the way, with visits to four fascinating sites: Pukará, the oldest ceremonial center of the Altiplano; the La Raya Pass (4,335 m.a.s.l.), the natural boundary between the Quechua and Aymara cultures with herds of llamas and vicuñas; Raqchi, with the monumental Temple of Wiracocha; and Andahuaylillas, the "Sistine Chapel of the Andes".

Lunch included along the way. Arrival in Cusco around 5:00 p.m., where our team will transfer you to your hotel.

Cusco city tour: Cathedral, Koricancha and Sacsayhuamán

Tour of the city of Cusco: from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m., a guided tour of the Inca capital that includes the Cathedral, an iconic colonial monument on the main square, and the Koricancha (Temple of the Sun), the most important temple of the Inca Empire, now part of the Santo Domingo Convent.

Then, outside the city: Sacsayhuamán, a ceremonial fortress shaped like a puma's head built with enormous stone blocks; Q'enqo, "The Labyrinth", dedicated to the worship of the Earth; Puca Pucara, the "Red Fortress", of military and administrative use; and Tambomachay, the "Water Temple", a sacred place of purification.

Sacred Valley of the Incas tour

Sacred Valley of the Incas: pickup around 8:30 a.m. for the full-day excursion. First stop in Pisac: artisan market and archaeological site with agricultural terraces, irrigation canals, an astronomical observatory and the Intiwatana sundial. Buffet lunch at a local restaurant.

Then, Ollantaytambo: one of the most important archaeological complexes in the valley, an Inca fortress combining temples, terraces and residential sectors with religious, administrative and military functions. At the end of the tour, train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu, and transfer to your hotel to rest.

Machu Picchu citadel

Machu Picchu: one of the most anticipated moments of the trip. Early in the morning, bus up to the citadel, located 2,430 meters (7,972 ft) above sea level and surrounded by spectacular scenery. Built in the 15th century during the height of the Inca Empire, it remained hidden until Hiram Bingham introduced it to the world in 1911, although local people already knew of it.

With your expert local guide, you will tour the main archaeological areas, temples and agricultural terraces. In the afternoon, return train to Cusco, where our staff will welcome you and take you to your hotel.

Arrival in the Puerto Maldonado Amazon

Amazon rainforest – Puerto Maldonado: today a new adventure begins! After breakfast, transfer to Cusco airport for the flight to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon (flight not included). On arrival, our staff will welcome you and you will sail by motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios river for approximately 25 minutes to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción.

Buffet lunch with organic ingredients. In the afternoon, a guided hike along the Concepción Trails, discovering the biodiversity of the primary and secondary tropical forest. At dusk, the Dusk River Excursion: a magical canoe ride on the Madre de Dios river to observe nocturnal wildlife and the constellations of the southern hemisphere. Dinner in the Casa Grande dining room.

Sandoval Lake in the Tambopata National Reserve

Sandoval Lake: after a hearty buffet breakfast, a guided hike through the Tambopata National Reserve toward Sandoval Lake, where Madre de Dios shows why it is Peru's biodiversity capital. In a canoe across its crystal-clear waters, you will observe endangered species such as the giant river otter, the blue-and-yellow macaw, the howler monkey, the black caiman and even the arapaima, one of the largest freshwater fish in the world.

On the way back, lunch before heading to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway and the Anaconda Trail: 30-meter towers and seven suspension bridges at 28 meters high with panoramic views of the jungle, plus a 200-meter wooden bridge over aguajales palm swamps. At night, a nocturnal jungle exploration.

Amazon botanical garden in Madre de Dios

Amazon botanical garden: after an early breakfast, visit a native chacra (small farm) to learn about the traditional agricultural techniques of the Amazon and taste local produce. Then, the botanical garden, home to dozens of medicinal plants that make up the natural pharmacy of local communities.

Return to the lodge for lunch and, in the afternoon, the Cocha river excursion: a wooden canoe ride on the calm waters of a private meander, catch-and-release native fishing and wildlife watching such as the hoatzin. Includes a stop at the remains of the Fitzcarraldo steamship. After dinner, the nocturnal clay lick reveals the secret life of the jungle at dusk.

Butterfly House in Puerto Maldonado

Butterfly House: buffet breakfast before the return journey by motorized canoe to Puerto Maldonado, where you will visit the butterfly house. This calm space is perfect for relaxing and learning about the fascinating life cycle of these colorful insects and the native butterfly species in their natural environment.

From there, return to the Tambopata river port and continue to Puerto Maldonado airport for the flight to Lima. On arrival, our staff will assist you and accompany you to your hotel just a 5-minute walk from the terminal (Wyndham Costa del Sol Lima Airport or similar).

Frequently asked questions

Before your big journey

Tour cancellations due to bad weather are not refundable, as they are factors beyond our control.

According to the policies of the Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura de Cusco (DDC), all Machu Picchu entrance tickets are personal: they cannot be rescheduled, transferred or refunded.

Train companies do not allow baggage heavier than 5 kg. It is best to carry only a small backpack for Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu; you can leave the rest of your luggage at your hotel's storage in Cusco at no extra cost.

Peru Rail and Inca Rail do not allow seat selection: seats are assigned automatically by the system.

We recommend taking the Expedition or Voyager train on the way out and the Vistadome or 360° panoramic train on the way back, to enjoy the best views without missing the visit.

We recommend drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous activity during the first few days, drinking coca tea and considering altitude sickness medication. The tour is designed with gradual acclimatization between Arequipa, Cusco and Puno.

The standard voltage in Peru is 230V. Some hotels offer 110V outlets with transformers upon request.

There are two main seasons: the rainy season (November to March) and the dry season (April to October). In Cusco and Machu Picchu, temperatures range between 0°C and 24°C; in the Amazon of Madre de Dios, between 24°C and 34°C with high humidity.
