The route, at a glance

We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and take you to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there you board the train to KM 104, the starting point of the Short Inca Trail.
The hike begins at Chachabamba (2,270 m.a.s.l.) and climbs to Wiñayhuayna (2,650 m.a.s.l.), one of the most important archaeological sites on the Inca Trail after Machu Picchu. The trail continues to the famous Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where you enjoy the first stunning view of Machu Picchu (2,400 m.a.s.l.) in the distance.
You descend toward the sanctuary, although today you do not enter the site, and continue to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town), where you have dinner and spend the night. Optional visit to the town's hot springs (entrance not included).
